See Part 1.

In a New York Times article titled "Preapproval for a Mortgage," Rebecca Fairley Raney wrote: "If you have ever bought a car or opened a credit card account, then the credit bureaus have already calculated a score for you. That number can range between 200 and 850, and the higher the score, the better."

That is not true. There is no 850 credit score in mortgage lending. The highest is 844.

Employers do not use credit scores.
