The Credit Scoring Site A bleak account

Florida Credit Union's false information

It just goes on and on. Not a Florida credit union, THE one actually named Florida Credit Union.

| By Greg Fisher

Florida Credit Union (n60497) states: "You may get a free copy of your credit report annually. To request a copy of your credit report, please visit: annualcreditreport.com." #weekly #FL #n60497 #n___

Truth: Actually, you can get it free weekly at that website. FCU's page footer states, "© 2025 Florida Credit Union," and an archive indicates that the date of the article is Vaentine's Day, 2026. Free credit reports have been weekly since 2020 and permanently so since 2023. Yes, that's right: Forever.

That gives new meaning to credit unions being old-fashioned.

Credit Score Myth 2

FCU: On the same page, Florida Credit Union (Beatrice Cherry, SVP Marketing, $302,669) screams: "YOUR CREDIT SCORE CAN AFFECT MORE THAN JUST YOUR LOAN INTEREST RATES ... It is used by FCU, other financial institutions, and businesses when you apply for loans, an apartment, insurance, or even a job." #mocketing #n527 #Myth2

Truth: Ouch.

Now credit report geeks eat this up.

The notion that employers use credit scores is a touchstone. In 2008, the credit bureaus all stated that they do not provide credit scores for employment purposes. But along comes every two-bit blogger, newspaper, TV station, regulator, bank, credit union, website and yahoo saying that they do. Experian says never, not no how, no way: "Employers never get credit scores."

And, forever blogging, uploading, blabbing, SEOing, and content farming, Experian also states, "Employers can't view your credit score."

But the internet has always been a funny place. Not much has changed there. Recently (after some back-and-forth)(and they mean well)(and they probably wouldn't have said it in the first place if they read creditscoring.com)(hokey smoke this is fun), the FDIC (aka the federal government) said,

Oh no.

On the other hand, absolutely blowing the tiny amount of credibility it had, the same DC four-letter agency tells America—inexplicably, irresponsibly, outlandishly—indeed, you must acknowledge, outrageously, "Ask for a 'good will' deletion"(!) #infamous

HEY WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA!?! This silly nonsense must end (Mr. Sullivan!)! #StopTalking #n500

Men of good will

The premise of the consumer reporting system is truth. In the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act preamble:

The Congress makes the following findings:

(1) The banking system is dependent upon fair and accurate credit reporting. Inaccurate credit reports directly impair the efficiency of the banking system, and unfair credit reporting methods undermine the public confidence which is essential to the continued functioning of the banking system.

(2) An elaborate mechanism has been developed for investigating and evaluating the credit worthiness, credit standing, credit capacity, character, and general reputation of consumers ...

Unless we confront and defeat jackassery, we're screwed. #megalomania
